101 Things to do in Bournemouth with Babies and Toddlers – Quomps Splashpark

Quomps Splashpark is a great place to take younger children on a hot summer’s day. The park is situated on Christchurch Quay; a Green Flag accredited park in the centre of Christchurch. There is also a playground adjacent to the splashpark, for double the fun.

How to get to Quomps Splashpark

The area of park on the edge of Christchurch quay, known locally as the Quomps, is at the bottom of Christchurch High Street. Christchurch is 4 miles east of Bournemouth along the A338/A35.

By Bus

Buses number 1a/1b/1c and X1/X2 stop at Town Centre, a 10 minute walk away. During the summer, the 70 Breezer Bus also stops here.

Access

Access is easy; the park is in a flat, paved area, right next to the car park.

Parking

There is a car park adjacent to the park at Mayor’s Mead. Parking costs £2.50 for 2 hours. Further details can be found here.

Opening Times

The park is open daily from 19th May until September, from 9 am until 6 pm (7 pm on Wednesday and Saturday).

Price

There is no entry fee.

Suitable for age

The park is suitable for children of all ages. The water depth is only a few centimetres, so the splashpark is perfectly safe for younger children to toddle about in. Note: If it’s hot, the park can get extremely busy.

Details

Orla loves the splash park, which has a number of water features to keep kids entertained. There is paddling pool surrounded by maritime creatures, with a popular row of stepping stones down the middle. All are covered in a textured rubber, so slipping is not an issue.

There’s a boat surrounded by fountains of water, which switch on and off, to keep everyone guessing where the water is going to come from next?

There are several other water features too, such as water cannon, which kids love to point at each other (and parents/grandparents) and even an Archimedes’ screw for any budding engineers.

Note: There are several benches within the splashpark, but some of them are in line of fire of some of the water fountains, so you are likely to get wet.

Food & Drink

The nearest restaurant is Boathouse, which is very nice, but a bit pricey, with kids meals costing between £7.50 and £10. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants in the High Street. Or pick up some supplies (M&S is a 10 minute walk away) for a picnic on the quayside.

Toilets/Changing Facilities

There is a toilet block with changing facilities on the Quomps, close to the play area.
