Independent Travel Itineraries for 50 Countries

I love independent travel and we have travelled (almost always independently) to quite a few countries in the past few years – 51 to be precise.

In the build-up to a trip, I spend ages researching the areas we are planning to visit and putting together a detailed itinerary with attractions, accommodation and thoughts about where to dine. I must admit, we don’t always stick to it rigidly. Sometimes, plans go awry. Or an attraction is far more/less interesting than anticipated. Or other things catch our eye along the way. But I do prefer at least to start out with a plan.

Listed below are the Travel Itineraries I have put together for some of the countries and cities we have visited on our travels. I hope you enjoy reading about our adventures and using them to plan your own perfect itinerary.

  1. I need a search button for your blog! It would be great to look up a location like “Bath, UK” and find out if you’ve been there/written about it. I think you can add a “search” widget pretty easily. Just a thought! Always enjoy reading your posts.

Thanks for the suggestion. I shall look into it. There are indexes on the home page.

  2. Another suggestion. I find most travel blogs follow the same format. What I really wish, is not just a description of sites in each place, but how you felt about that site. I’m thinking a pyramid type, ala Rick Steves guidebooks. Three pyramids for a do not miss site, two pyramids for try to do site and one pyramid for a try to see it if you can site.

A good idea. The blogs which start with the name of the country are written at the end of each day. There’s a lot more opinion in those than in the city travel guides which are written later. For example, if I remember rightly, in Beppu I ranted for a while about the size of the animal enclosures. But sometimes I delete the more personal stuff in the guides.

Also, I’ve started writing top 10 lists for each place we’ve visited, which include all the best bits. I did think about ordering them from 1 to 10 but took so long deliberating that I gave up. But I love your 3 pyramid idea. I may add that as an extra column in my top 10 tables.
